Welcome to Day 12 of our Intermediate Korean series! 💪 In this lesson, you’ll learn how to talk about things you can and cannot do using:

• ~ㄹ/을 수 있다 – “can / able to”
• ~ㄹ/을 수 없다 – “can’t / unable to”

This is one of the most useful expressions in daily life when you want to talk about your ability or possibility to do something.

📘 Grammar Breakdown

수 있다 literally means “there is a way (to do something),” and 수 없다 means “there is no way (to do something).” So the structure becomes:

• Verb stem + ㄹ/을 수 있다 = can do
• Verb stem + ㄹ/을 수 없다 = can’t do

📘 How to Conjugate

• ㄹ 받침 없는 동사 → 그냥 ㄹ 수 있다/없다
• 받침 있는 동사 → 을 수 있다/없다

Examples:

• 가다 → 갈 수 있다
  ga-da → gal su it-da
  👉 can go
• 먹다 → 먹을 수 있다
  meok-da → meok-eul su it-da
  👉 can eat
• 보다 → 볼 수 있다
  bo-da → bol su it-da

• 운전하다 → 운전할 수 있다
  un-jeon-ha-da → un-jeon-hal su it-da
