Day 7: Review & Practice – Reinforce Your Korean Skills

Welcome to Day 7 of your Korean language journey! Congratulations on making it through your first week of learning Korean! Today, we will take a step back to review everything you’ve learned so far and give you a chance to reinforce your skills.

Reviewing is just as important as learning new material. It helps you retain what you've learned, identify areas that may need more practice, and ensure that you are building a solid foundation. So let’s take this opportunity to reinforce the key concepts of the past week and prepare for the next steps!

Why Review Is Important

When you’re learning a new language, reviewing helps you:

  • Consolidate your knowledge: Repetition strengthens memory, and reviewing ensures you don’t forget key concepts.

  • Identify weak spots: If something doesn’t quite click, review gives you a chance to spot areas where you need more practice.

  • Build confidence: As you see how much you’ve learned, your confidence will grow, and you’ll feel more comfortable moving forward.

Review Practice: Writing and Pronunciation

Let’s review some of the basic concepts with these practice exercises:

1. Write the Basic Consonants and Vowels:

  • Write each of the 14 basic consonants and 10 vowels. Focus on both writing and pronouncing them correctly.

  • Once you're comfortable with the individual consonants and vowels, start combining them into simple syllables. Write out 10 simple syllables and pronounce them.

Example:

  • 가 (ga) = +

  • 나 (na) = +

  • 다 (da) = +

  • 마 (ma) = +

2. Practice Final Consonants (받침):

  • Write and pronounce 5 syllables that have a final consonant. Focus on making sure you pronounce the final consonant clearly.

Example:

  • 강 (gang) = + +

  • 밥 (bap) = + +

  • 밭 (bat) = + +

  • 집 (jip) = + +

3. Pronunciation Practice:

  • Listen to native speakers (via apps, videos, or podcasts) and repeat the sounds you hear. Focus on getting the vowels and consonants as accurate as possible.

  • Record yourself and compare your pronunciation with native speakers.
